Latest Updates from Our Project:

Fulfillment beginning soon!
about 4 years ago – Thu, Mar 19, 2020 at 02:55:14 PM

Hello High Rise backer!

Who would have known that, one year after the High Rise campaign completed, you'd be getting your games in such strange circumstances?

Nevertheless, the day is almost upon us, finally! The fulfillment centers have about two weeks of other projects they need to finish. They will start shipping out products at the end of the month. So we're looking at most backers receiving their game some time around mid-April. (It would be sooner, but the fulfillment centers are all understaffed now.)

The silver lining here is that it should give me time to finish editing the how-to-play video I filmed a couple of weeks ago and release it before you get your games! That will be my next update.

Almost there!

Games are arriving in port this week!
about 4 years ago – Mon, Mar 09, 2020 at 08:25:15 PM

Hello High Rise backer, thanks so much for your patience! The wait is nearly over...

Our shipments arrive in port this week. Then there is a wait for customs, and then we can fulfill. If we don't have any delays in customs, I'd assume shipments going out in about 2 weeks.

I got to show the game off at Granite Game Summit this past week! Really happy with how it looks. (And yes, the red player won with that 15-story building on the left. Last-second spire for the win!)

The games are on their way from China!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Jan 22, 2020 at 01:29:13 AM

Hello High Rise backer,

Just a small update with big news here: the games are on their way from China! They were loaded onto the boat a few days ago, and are starting their long journey on the water.

We have two shipments: one going to the US, and another headed to the UK. They will both arrive by early March. Then it's a matter of clearing Customs and getting to the fulfillment houses. Then we can ship them off!

From this point on, there isn't really much to update you all about until the games arrive. Everything has been manufactured, and it's just a matter of getting it all to you.

It's been a long journey, and I'm very thankful for all your patience. At this point, both Kwanchai and Heiko have seen the game in person, and they're both thrilled with how good it looks.

I am currently working on another Kickstarter campaign for The Rival Networks, a standalone 2-player version of The Networks. I'm looking forward to getting that up and running while we wait for High Rise to make its way across the ocean. I hope some of you will get to join me next week when we launch!

Addresses locking in 48 hours!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Dec 24, 2019 at 02:02:19 AM

Hello High Rise backer,

Just a quick note that I will be locking addresses in BackerKit in 48 hours. This would be a good time to hop into BackerKit and make sure that you have your correct address in there.

I will be receiving some production proof copies shortly. Can't wait to tell you all about them!

Happy holidays from Formal Ferret Games!

Bad news: Shipping in February. Good news: Here are the promised STL files!
over 4 years ago – Sun, Dec 01, 2019 at 07:04:31 PM

Hello High Rise backer!

I'm afraid I'll have to lead with the bad news: we're still a couple of months away from shipping. We are now estimating shipping High Rise in February 2020.

Why the delay? It took a couple of months to get the plastic bases right. At Essen, I found that they were still too narrow, and leaving bite marks at the bottoms of the Building Tiles. We had a couple more rounds of samples from the manufacturer, and as anyone who saw the pre-production proof at BGG.CON can attest, the bases feel amazing now. The Building Tiles now slide in perfectly.

Of course, if you play the game hundreds of times, you'll probably start seeing wear on the tiles; that's just physics and erosion! But you shouldn't see any damage after a single play.

This is a choice I'll always make: if I have to decide between speed and acceptable quality, I'll always choose quality. There's no way I was going to rush the production and deliver a sub-par product. It stinks to miss the original shipping estimate, but I want to be sure you get a game that you will enjoy.

Thanks so much for your understanding!

STL files available!

Some of you have told me that you wanted STL files, so you can 3D-print your own stackable plastic pieces (like in the original High Rise Kickstarter). These were designed by my friend Daniel Newman (designer of Dead Man's Cabal), and in my experience, they work quite well.

Please be sure to read the disclaimer from the README file! I'm copying it here so you can see it:

This project is going to be LONG and EXPENSIVE. You are going to need to print out almost 300 plastic pieces, not including defects. Expect to use a lot of filament and spend a lot of time.

If you’re having this printed by a commercial 3D printing service like Shapeways, count on spending at least $300 USD.

Some pieces you print may not fit perfectly together. We’ve tested these files, and they generally fit well. However, tolerances on modern 3D printers are still pretty wide, and we cannot guarantee that every piece you print will stack nicely.

You will also need to make a bunch of small square punchboard tiles to denote a building’s height. Files for these are included here.

Also, you’ll need to find a larger bag than the one that comes in the game. Details are below.

While I’ve made a best effort to make these files usable, I’m providing them WITHOUT WARRANTY. I’m not responsible for any damages or losses you may encounter or incur as a result of printing these files out. I’ll do my best to help, but I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to provide any support for issues you encounter while making these files. Use at your own risk.

Finally: it is entirely possible that Formal Ferret will release a mass-produced version of these files sometime in 2020 or 2021. So while these files are your only chance for a stackable plastic version of High Rise in the immediate future, that may not always be the case.

OK, if that didn't scare you off, then here's the link to the STL files.

If you find these files useful, please consider sending some money Daniel's way as a thank-you! His PayPal address is inside the README.

Visit me at PAX Unplugged!

My last convention of the year is this weekend, at PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia! I'll be at Booth 3546, showing off High Rise and my next game, The Rival Networks (a 2-player version of The Networks coming to Kickstarter soon). I'll also have all my older games for sale.

Personally, I'll be at my booth until about 2 pm each day. Looking forward to saying hello and showing you the High Rise pre-production proof.

That's all the news I have for now. Have a happy holiday season, and I'll send another update when the games get loaded onto the boat to the US!
